Last week I was at the gynecologist and she informed me I had a cyst of 5cm, which had to be removed. I wonder if it is really so urgent or whether I could wait a few more weeks to see if it disappears on its own. I understand it can lead to twisting of the fallopian tubes or can burst in the worst case. Any tips?

To start with, every woman has cysts but most of them disappear after a while. I also had one which was around 4.5cm. My doctor said to wait for another 6 weeks and come back. When I came back it had grown to 4.8cm. From 5cm onwards I hear you face the danger that it bursts (i.e. hurts a lot) or your fallopian tubes twist, which can make you infertile in the worst case. That is why my doctor recommended that I get surgery soon and avoid sports where you move a lot. Looking back, I am glad I waited another three weeks and when I returned it had suddenly decreased to 2cm. There can be sporadic retractions but in case you choose to wait you must continuously observe it!
