My period nightmare as a swimmer

Last week my absolute nightmare happened. I have been a swimmer for a long time. At the same time I suffer from very strong and painful periods. When I got out of the pool after training I realized I left slightly red coloured water behind me and had blood stains on my bathing suit. I was just so embarrassed and didn't know how to deal with the situation. Clearly, the pool attendant was not amused and asked me to take better care of myself. My period had been too early and was totally unexpected. I have not gone back to the pool since then since I am so embarrassed and ashamed. I know it is stupid but I can’t help feeling the way I feel.
